Ten Reasons You May Need a Photographer This Spring

I have been a dedicated photographer for over a decade now. With anything you've done for a long time you tend to notice trends or ebbs and flows within your business. Photography isn't any different. Each month or season there tends to be a certain type of need. Some things, of course are year round, but I've noticed that in the spring I have a certain set of client needs. Here are ten spring time events that may make you think...hmmmm I need a photographer!

1. Wedding or Engagement Photography

In the month of April I was hired to shoot three weddings and had inquiries for two more. Spring is a great time to get married especially if you're not dependent on the weather! It may be a little too late for wedding bookings for spring this year but engagements and maybe less formal weddings could find a spot on the spring calendar. If your wedding is later in the year you might want to contact your favorite photographer asap because they book up fast!

2. Graduation

May kicks off the graduation season! Every year I've been contracted to photograph at least one graduation event. It's an exciting time of year with someone getting a huge goal completed. Whether it's high school or college graduation, having a professional come and capture your celebratory completion is well worth it.

3. Mother's Day

May 13th is Mother's Day and moms love photography! Bringing the family together for that special photograph can be a very special blessing for the matriarch. Nothing means more to mom than family! Some variations to this are mom and her sisters, mom and daughters, mom and her children, mom and her significant other, pamper fun glamour shoot, or mom and her family. All would be perfect as a gift for the special mother in your life.

4. Open House Photos

You might be one of those types that procrastinate and you realize your senior's graduation is in a month and you have no wallets to pass out or no Senior portrait to display. Do not fret! If you need a quick portrait session to provide some simple open house needs you still have time! Not much, but there's still time. If we already had a senior portrait session you can place an order for prints, including wallets, at any time, although the process from image selection, to ordering, to delivery may take up to a week.

5. Family Reunion

Spring also means end of the school year and possibly family reunions. If your family is planning to get together to spend time together, it might make sense to try and capture that ever evasive family portrait.

6. Updated Head Shot

You just got that hot, new spring hair-do, now would be the best time to also update your business head shot! You can never go wrong with keeping your business branding fresh and up to date.

7. Birthdays

I don't want to make it seem like winter birthdays are depressing but finally getting to be outside and having a birthday blast is the best! My oldest son has a birthday on April 19th. Every year when he was a child I would plan a huge outdoor party, usually at a local park. Every year I was told how crazy I was to host something outside. And every year that we did it, it was warm and gorgeous out! If you have a little one having a birthday, lets plan an outdoor, spontaneous and fun session. We can bring in balloons, bubbles, blankets, toys, whatever makes your little one happy! And I'll run around getting all the great shots!

8. Events

For many, many years I have shot multiple spring events. From Capital City Film Festival to Dirtyfeat Adventure Race to TEDxLansing, I've been involved in some of the best events. If your group has an event going on and needs marketing material or participant photographs, getting a professional to come in really makes the difference.

9. Senior Spring Sessions

For my senior portrait sessions I offer a three season package. This package includes three sessions in three seasons. Most folks prefer the spring, summer, fall seasons. If you're interested in having your senior portraits with spring backgrounds: apple blossoms, bright greenery, cooler temperature, softer sunshine, fog, soft pedals, spring flowers, you may want to contact me to schedule your spring photo session soon. The buds are just starting to come in.

10. Just because you feel great!

All winter you've been wearing knit hats, scarves, heavy sweaters, wool socks, multiple coats and whatever else you needed to come out the other side of this long and dreary winter. In spring it's like emerging from a cocoon! I feel energized! Maybe you started eating less sugar and you're feeling great! Maybe you're training for a marathon later in the summer. Maybe you have that new hair cut! Maybe you just need to feel pampered and special. There is no better reason to do something than to do it for yourself. You could turn the whole thing into a day of pampering! Start with a massage or a mani-pedi. Treat yourself to hair and make-up. Go buy a nice, fresh outfit and then show up looking and feeling amazing for your private photography session. Then use those images to always remember how awesome you are!

Every day is a good day to take a photo, unless it's raining!

Have a great weekend!
