Choosing Ariniko

Why Choose Me as Your Photographer in East Lansing

I know there are hundreds of photographers in the Greater Lansing area, and choosing the right one can feel overwhelming—especially when you're relying on a website or social media to make that decision. Photography is personal. Your comfort with the person behind the lens can make all the difference. That’s why I believe in being transparent, approachable, and authentic—not just as a photographer, but as a person.

A Lifetime of Experience & Growth

My photography journey began in 1992 when I received my first camera—a Canon EOS Rebel film camera. That camera opened a creative door I’ve never wanted to close. Since then, I’ve remained a dedicated Canon user, transitioning to digital in 2010 with my first DSLR. My style and technical skills have evolved over decades of shooting weddings, birthdays, family sessions, graduations, and more.

I studied photography at Lansing Community College (2002–2003) during the film-to-digital transition, and I’ve never stopped learning. Every session, every client, every photo has helped shape the photographer I am today.

My Background in People & Connection

Before becoming a full-time photographer, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1995. I worked with foster youth, unhoused individuals, and underserved families—experiences that helped shape my ability to connect with others on a deep, human level. That background continues to influence how I interact with clients of all ages and backgrounds today.

I’m a mom to four amazing children—two grown, and two boy/girl twins still at home—and a grandmother to three. I’ve been the go-to cousin, the Girl Scout junior counselor, and the favorite camp volunteer. Children and families have always been a central part of my life, and I bring that joy and patience into every session.

The Technical Side (That You Don’t Have to Worry About)

I’m highly experienced in a wide range of shooting conditions—studio lighting, natural light, low light, and outdoor sessions at any time of day. I’ve photographed concerts in dim lofts and golden-hour family sessions in Lansing’s beautiful parks.

My editing process is efficient and minimal because I aim for “straight out of camera” quality whenever possible. That means quicker turnaround times (often just 1–3 days!) and natural, beautiful images that don’t rely heavily on filters or retouching—unless you request specific edits like acne or flyaway removal.

My husband, a programmer, and I also offer technical flexibility you might not find elsewhere—like custom online galleries, mobile apps for your session, and creatively designed graphics or products.

City Saunter & Creative Perspective

From 2010 to 2013, I undertook a personal project called City Saunter, where I walked and photographed every street in Lansing. That project not only shaped me as an artist, it also gave me an incredible knowledge of hidden gems and unique backdrops for photo shoots throughout the city.
