Sights on Dad

They often fix the plumbing, change the car's oil and open that tricky pickle jar. They mow the lawn, take out the trash and provide the stern discipline. However, in today's times, they are often expected to join in a tea party, change a diaper and sing a good night lullaby. The roles of today's parents are often exchanged, overlapped and ever changing. That idea of dad coming home after a long day at work, resting comfortably, alone in the study while the rest of the family provide a quiet respite seems abandoned. Today's fathers are right in there alongside their partner. They play right along with the children, they assist with homework, comfort the wounded, help make dinner and clean up. They shop, they fold laundry, and they read books. They are the dads of today.

The family sessions I book are almost always scheduled by the mother. It's her request for the family photo. I love the dynamics of these families. The mom is often concerned with the look of the image. The dad is almost always interested in the feel of the image. What a wonderful balance. The mom makes it look good and the dad makes it fun.

To all the dads that work hard and play harder, I champion your great work. Through my lens I see your little tickles, your goofy faces, your admirable strength and the unconditional respect you have for your family.

You are treasured.

Happy Father's Day
